The Opportunity
The Infrastructure Department is comprised of five Branches, including three Design and Construction Branches, the Wastewater Operations Branch, and the Water Operations Branch. Key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the City’s environmental infrastructure and systems including water supply, treatment, and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; and the design and construction of the City's infrastructure including treatment plants, pump stations, roads, sewers, watermains, sidewalks, stormwater management ponds, water towers and reservoirs, etc.
Under the general guidance and direction of the Section Supervisor, the Water Supply and Treatment Operator Class IV position is responsible for the daily operational, maintenance, and repair activities of the Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) and the Ground Water Supply systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the drinking water systems. Additionally, this position acts as the Operator-in-Charge (OIC) and Overall Responsible Operator (ORO). Furthermore, this position ensures operational, maintenance, and repair activities are in compliance with drinking water acts and regulations, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and branch, department, and corporate policies and procedures. Overall, this position plays an integral role in protecting the municipal drinking water system from contamination to ensure the delivery of a continuous potable drinking water supply for the City of Barrie residents and visitors.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Two (2) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technician, Electrical Engineering Technician, Environmental Engineering Technician, Mechanical Engineering Technician, or a related discipline
- Two (2) years of additional education or training in order obtain a Water Treatment and/or Water Distribution and Supply Class IV Certificate from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC)
- Water Treatment and/or Water Distribution and Supply Class IV Certificate from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC)
- Gas Chlorination Certificate (obtained within three (3) months of hire)

Experience
- Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position, including:

Conditions of Employment
- Medical documentation to confirm medically fit to wear a respirator
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing

Other Important Information
Location: Surface Water Treatment Plant, 20 Royal Parkside Drive, Barrie
Hours: The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2025 pay range:
- Pay Level: Level 9
- Yearly Salary: $90,521.60 to $108,388.80
- Hourly Pay Rate: $43.52 to $52.11
