The Opportunity
 
The Transit and Parking Strategy Department strives to provide customer focused, efficient, reliable and affordable public transportation and parking services that link people, workplaces and the community and promotes economic development within the City of Barrie.
 
Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Compliance and Customer Service, the Transit Ticket Sales Clerk (PT) position is responsible for providing front-line support to customers that use Barrie Transit programs and services. Specifically, this position acts as a point of contact for customers and performs various customer service duties related to Barrie Transit. Additionally, this position acts as a point of sale agent for all conventional and inter-city transit fare media. Overall, this position plays an integral role in the delivery of consistent, timely and effective customer service to Barrie Transit customers, ensuring that riders can successfully navigate the routes and schedules of the transit system and travel across the City of Barrie as well as other to other Cities and urban centres.
 
The City of Barrie is accepting applications for current and future casual part-time Transit Ticket Sales Clerk vacancies. Education (degree/diploma/certifications) 
  • Secondary School Diploma
 
Experience 
  • Six (6) months of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
  • Two (2) years of cumulative part-time experience or one (1) year of full-time experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities in a customer service work environment
  • Demonstrated experience handling and processing financial transactions
 
Knowledge/Skill/Ability 
  • Demonstrated Ability to:
    • Demonstrated ability to respond to customers in a friendly, courteous and effective manner
    • Demonstrated mathematical ability including the ability to verify calculations and the accuracy of numbers and transaction amounts
    • Intermediate verbal communication skills
    • Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and database software
    • Ability to work weekdays, evenings, weekends and/or holidays, as required

Other Important Information

Location: Barrie Transit Terminal, 24 Maple Avenue, Barrie, ON
 
Hours: The normal hours of work are up to and including 24 hours per week with a varying schedule to support business demand.
 
Wage: This is a casual part-time non-union position with the following 2024 pay range:
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $20.21 to $26.13
