The Opportunity
 
Barrie Fire and Emergency Service (BFES) is a team of dedicated professionals delivering a vast array of emergency services to the citizens, businesses and visitors of Barrie. Originally organized in 1844, BFES has become one of the most respected fire services in Ontario, providing high-level service in: fire inspection/code enforcement, fire protection, technical rescue, training, communications, origin and cause investigations, and emergency management planning.
 
Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Fire and Emergency Administrative Support Services, the Fire Support Administrator position is responsible for providing administrative support to the Fire Prevention Branch and Operations and Training Branch within the Barrie Fire and Emergency Service Department, primarily with respect to data management and program administration. Additionally, this position provides reception and customer service for the Department, to enable a comprehensive delivery of services for the staff and residents of the City of Barrie.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications) 
  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Office Administration

Experience 
  • Two (2) years of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position
Knowledge/Skill/Ability 
  • General knowledge of administrative processes and protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to: 
    • work independently with good judgment and diplomacy
    • maintain close and cooperative liaison with other staff, community organizations, etc.
    • deal with all contacts in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner to promote a high standard of public relations at all times
    • perform moderate to heavy lifting, which involves lifting, dragging, and pushing boxes weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Intermediate skills include: Customer Service; Interpersonal; Multitasking; Organizational; Prioritization; Verbal and Written Communication
  • Basic computer literacy using the following systems and software: Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, InfoPath, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio, Word), Adobe Reader, Firehouse software, TargetSolutions, Accela, AMANDA, GIS Portal, Great Plains, AS400, purchasing software, social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter), and the Internet
  • Availability, as assigned, to assist with after-hours questions, concerns, or emergencies

Other Important Information

Location: Barrie Fire and Emergency Services, Station 1, 155 Dunlop Street West, Barrie, Ontario
 
Hours: The normal hours of work are up to and including 24 hours per week with a varying schedule to support business demand
 
Wage: This is a temporary part-time non-union position with the following 2024 pay range:
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $31.75 to $38.03
