The Opportunity
 
Recreation and Culture Services builds vibrant, healthy, active and connected communities by providing facilities and programs that give all Barrie residents an opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Key responsibilities include identifying community recreation needs and interests, developing and delivering recreation opportunities which meet these needs and interests, maintaining and operating recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities, and managing the provision of space to external community providers and
 
The Community Events Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the variety of events that are  programmed in the City of Barrie, especially on the Downtown Stage. This position manages the  City of Barrie’s own calendar of events and ensures a smooth and balanced approach to the  programming of events. This position manages the volunteer resources and develops the necessary partnerships to support a dynamic catalogue of special events.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications) 
  • Three (3) year Undergraduate Degree in Event Management, Tourism Management, Recreation or related discipline

Experience 
  • Three (3) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge/Skill/Ability 
  • Basic knowledge of Ontario’s Culture Strategy
  • Working knowledge of the principles related to policy creation
  • Working knowledge of production equipment and protocols, policing and safety protocols,  alcohol bylaws, noise bylaws, ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of professional and non-professional personnel.

Other Important Information
 
Location: 56 Mulcaster Street, Barrie, Ontario
 
Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
 
Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2024 pay range:
    • Pay Level: Level 8
    • Yearly Salary: $72,636.20 to $87,068.80 
    • Hourly Pay Rate: $39.91 to $47.84
Benefits: This position includes health and dental benefits, optional enrollment in the OMERS Primary pension plan, prorated paid sick time based on the expected duration of employment, and prorated vacation time based on calendar year and in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.
