The Opportunity
 
Recreation and Culture Services builds vibrant, healthy, active and connected communities by providing facilities and programs that give all Barrie residents an opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Key responsibilities include identifying community recreation needs and interests, developing and delivering recreation opportunities which meet these needs and interests, maintaining and operating recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities, and managing the provision of space to external community providers and groups.
 
Under the general guidance and direction of the Recreation Programmer, and reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Summer Fun Trailer leader position is responsible for running-day-to-day Summer Fun Trailer activities for the community at one of the City of Barrie’s pop-up locations. They are responsible for set up and take down of the trailer, customer service and the safety and well-being of children, youth and families looking to access recreational opportunities through a non-traditional method. Overall, this position plays an integral role in enhancing children, youth and adult participation in recreation activities within our community through the delivery of inclusive and quality recreation programs in the City of Barrie.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications) 
  • Currently enrolled in or is a student in Secondary School, College, or University*
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate from HIGH FIVE® National **
  • Standard First Aid, CPR Level C and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certifications**

*Minimum of 16 years of age or turning 16 by the end of the calendar year and must have attended one of the academic establishments listed above the year in which they are applying for employment and/or returning the following year

**Must provide proof by June 30 and/or first date of hire

 
Knowledge/Skill/Ability 
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission and values
  • Basic customer service and communication (oral and written) skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • exert effort to lift, push, pull, or carry objects for short periods of time

    • exert effort to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, grasping, bending forward, stooping, kneeling, crouching or turning

  • Basic computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

*Please note that this is a requirement of the position for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the Police Record Check Procedure. Existing employees who have met this criteria will be exempt from this requirement.
 
 
Other Important Information
 
Work Term: Up to August 30, 2024
 
Wage: $16.12 to $17.25 per hour
 
Hours: The normal hours our work are up to 40 hours per week with a varying schedule to support business demand.
 
Location: Allandale Recreation Centre (190 Bayview Drive, Barrie), East Bayfield Community Centre (80 Livingstone Street East, Barrie), Peggy Hill Team Community Centre (171 Mapleton Avenue, Barrie).
